About us
The mission of Pawsitive Teams is to enhance the lives of individuals with special needs in San Diego County by using the skills of highly trained service, facility, and therapy dogs. Pawsitive Teams (PT) is a small nonprofit organization located in San Diego County, CA, founded 25 years ago by two local women and one dog. We serve the community by living our mission as a volunteer-inspired, volunteer-run organization with a small part-time staff and over 65 volunteers. We have three dog programs (Service, Facility, and Therapy Dogs), a Therapy Dog Prep School, and an active Outreach and Education Program. PT programs can be thought of as One-to-One (service dogs that are specially trained to assist one individual), One-to-Many (facility dogs that are specially trained to work in an organization with their partner, assisting many clients), and Many-to-Many (goal-directed therapy dog teams that volunteer at organizations across the county, helping many individuals with special needs during the customized activities engaged in during a visit). Our service dog program has a placement rate of 70% compared with 55% cited by larger, national programs. We serve eleven organizations through our unique goal-directed therapy dog programs. Over 850 individuals have completed our Therapy Dog Prep School, with many going on to serve as volunteers across the county. Our Facility Dogs now serve active-duty military at Naval Hospital San Diego and the County’s court system. This year, we are expanding our Facility Dog program to be able to serve more organizations.
