Pacific Traditions Society
About us
Since 1987 Pacific Traditions Society has worked to help communities educate children to learn ancient designs, materials and methods of building and navigating to revive use of inter-island voyaging networks. Masters of the ancient arts and culture are now teaching youths at the new voyaging school canoe houses at Taumako, Solomon Islands and at Lumolumo, Papua New Guinea. These schools will be regional and trans-Oceania hubs for revival of the ancient knowledge and networks. There are 54 other communities who need a canoe-house structure and a traditional vessel. New technology is not sustainable in these communities and cannot be maintained. Modern scientists and students are welcome to come to these voyaging schools and learn and exchange and collaborate to protect the ocean, bio-diversity and understand more about climate change.
