North Queensland Womens Legal Service
About us
North Queensland Women's Legal Service (NQWLS) is inundated each week by women seeking free legal help and representation in court for domestic violence and family law matters. Women living anywhere across the top half of Queensland (north from Sarina, to Cape York and west to the NT border) can call and speak directly with a lawyer on the free Legal Advice Line 1800 244 504. Face to face appointments can be made at our offices in Townsville or Cairns. NQWLS solicitors also travel to Ayr, Ingham, Charters Towers, Innisfail, Atherton, Mareeba, Mossman and Port Douglas and provide free legal advice clinics from local community centres to give access to women living in those communities. We also offer appointments by Skype from other rural and remote areas including Mt Isa, Whitsundays, Kuranda, Cooktown and Ravenshoe. Information and referral to other legal and community support services is also provided for any legal problem or crisis situation. NQWLS has limited resources though and it knows that for every call it can respond to, another 7 calls go unanswered. We need your help, your donations, to help us help more women in need.
