For the benefit of the public to relieve the suffering of animals, particularly cats, in need of care and attention and, in particular, to provide and maintain rescue homes or other facilities for the reception, care, treatment and rehoming of such animals.

The following is an outline of the activities carried out in the process of fulfilling these objects.

(1) The relief of pain and suffering for lost, stray, homeless, abandoned, mistreated, unwanted, sick and injured cats in the North East of England.

Achieved by: the provision of a rescue and re-homing process encompassing the following:

· microchip scanning to reunite lost cats and their owners;

· safe, secure accommodation with associated day-to-day care;

· standard healthcare (neutering, micro-chipping, vaccinations, flea and worming treatment and, in the case of adult fighting tom cats, testing for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) and FeLV (Feline Leukaemia Virus);

· veterinary treatment for ongoing health conditions; emergency veterinary treatment; euthanasia (if recommended by a veterinary professional);

· re-homing by means of an adoption process using a comprehensive Re-homing Policy (see separate document)

(2) The prevention of over population in the feral and domestic cat populations of the North East of England

Achieved by: the provision of neutering:

· For feral cats - a humane process of TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return or Relocate) including flea and worming treatment and first vaccination.

For the purposes of this sub-clause:

‘Return’ means - to the original location if it is safe and food can be provided;

‘Relocate’ means - sourcing safe haven elsewhere, such as a feral rescue, farm, small-holding or stables where food and shelter can be provided.

· For domestic cats - education and advice for owners on neutering; assistance with arrangements for and the cost of neutering where required.

(3) The prevention and suppression of cruelty to, and the promotion of humane behaviour towards, cats in the North East of England

Achieved by: the education of the general public by raising awareness of all cat welfare issues including day-to-day care and healthcare needs, in particular the need to neuter, micro-chip, vaccinate and provide regular flea and worming treatment.
