About us

The National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association(NWRA) is a national organization working to educate people and improve the welfare of injured wild animals. NWRA has been in service to the field of wildlife rehabilitation for over 40 years. What is wildlife rehabilitation? Wildlife rehabilitation provides valuable support to injured wildlife, with the intent to return healthy wildlife to the community and conserve the species diversity essential to our environment. For injured wildlife every minute matters. The sooner diagnosis, treatment, and pain can be alleviated the better the chance for healing and re-release to the wild. A skilled wildlife veterinary team and wildlife rehabilitator make that happen. However, there is a gap in the knowledge available to treat and care for wildlife. Wildlife medicine is not taught at most veterinary schools and few colleges offer programs in wildlife rehabilitation. NWRA is working on a national level to train wildlife medicine techniques and best practices through our publications, courses, and in-person annual symposia. Through each of these programs, NWRA works to bridge the gap and build training for wildlife professionals to ensure injured wildlife receive the care needed to preserve their populations and our environments. As Maya Angelou so beautifully said, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”Education is the key to knowing what better looks like. With your help we can educate more professionals to care for injured wildlife!
