The Little Ponderosa Zoo and Rescue in Clinton was established 20 years ago by James Cox. He saw the need for an exotic animal rescue to give exotic animals purchased as pets in addition to many other displaced exotic animals a soft landing place where they can live out their lives. Most were previously euthanized due to no facility available to house them. We are a non profit 501 (c)3 organization. A few years ago, Little Ponderosa Zoo and Rescue was also made a wildlife certification facility by TWRA allowing us to rescue, rehabilitate and release native wildlife. The Zoo and Rescue houses 1100 animals as well as treating up to 200 native wildlife at any given time. The Zoo and Rescue runs primarily on donations to house, feed and treat our residents as well as our rehabilitation animals. Our Zoo and Rescue hosts hundreds of local elementary schools each season to educate them about wild animals, exotic animals and our environment. Our white tail deer rescue is the only facility in East Tennessee where injured and orphaned white tail deer fawns can be brought to be treated, raised and released back to their native habitat. We rescue over 100 fawns each season along with raccoons, opossums, squirrel, owls, birds, otters, skunks and so much more. We have developed a proven method of rehabilitation and treatment for each species.
