Through Letters of Hope, you can show people in their darkest hours that there is good in the world. And it all starts with a simple letter.
Letters of Hope was founded in 2018, and aims to spread kindness, raise awareness and break the stigma around mental health through sending handwritten letters to those who are going through a tough time. Letters of Hope founder, Abbie Williams, started the charity after her own struggles with anxiety and depression. After moving from the UK to Australia and becoming her grandparents' pen pal, Abbie noticed the huge impact that a simple handwritten letter would have on a bad mental health day.
Through sending handwritten letters, Letters of Hope shares helpful coping strategies, words of empowerment and connects those who are struggling with the support that could turn things around. We truly believe in the importance of social connection, kindness and compassion as protective factors when it comes to mental health and wellbeing. So far, we have sent 1,700 handwritten letters to over 22 countries. From here in Australia, all the way to the US, UK, Africa, the Philippines, India, and even Iceland! We have sent letters to people as young as 7, and as old as 96.
We need your support so that we can continue to recruit more volunteers, send more handwritten letters, provide free mental health education, and ultimately create kinder communities everywhere.
