Jane Goodall Institute Australia Limited
About us
In 1960, primatologist Jane Goodall embarked on a life changing expedition to East Africa to study chimpanzees, her work there continues to inspire the world today. Jane founded the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) to continue research on wild chimpanzees in 1977 and over time the purpose of JGI has broadened to inspiring actions that connect animals, people and the environment. Jane also founded Roots & Shoots, an organisation focussed on empowering younger generations to pursue their passions and help ensure a more sustainable future for our world. Together, these two extensions of Jane’s philosophy, have been responsible for community-centred conservation and development programs in nearly 100 countries. By supporting the Jane Goodall Institute Australia (JGIA) you will be powering our multifaceted crusade both domestically and overseas. In Africa, JGIA fund the Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Centre which cares for Chimpanzees that have been subject to illegal trades and habitat loss. JGIA seeks to remove these threats through education and community-centred conservation. We also work to empower young women in East Africa by providing education equipment, health and life skills which can help them achieve their education and stop the cycle of poverty. Locally, JGIA generates awareness and funding to assist with environmental issues affecting our homeland. Roots & Shoots works with JGIA inspiring and equipping passionate children to work towards their dreams for a sustainable future. Some current campaigns include mobile phone recycling and ‘Thumbs Up for Turtles’ aiming to reduce plastic waste. In helping us raise awareness and funds, you can be part of building a more sustainable future for our world and the generations to come.
