ICRF’s mission is to support the best and brightest scientists conducting groundbreaking cancer research in Israel. Our vision is to eliminate suffering caused by cancer. ICRF is a nonprofit organization founded in 1975 by a group of American and Canadian physicians, scientists and philanthropists who recognized the extraordinary accomplishments and unique global impact of science in Israel. They envisioned Israel as a world-leader in cancer research. Now, hundreds of Israeli scientists across all fields of cancer are inspired by North American funding to conduct their research in world-class Israeli biomedical institutions. Among scientists, ICRF awards are considered prestigious recognitions of scientific excellence because of the rigor of our completely transparent and objective selection process, conducted by a Scientific Review Panel made up of 40-50 of North America’s best research scientists ICRF is Israel’s largest nongovernmental source of funding for cancer research. ICRF-funded researchers have made major discoveries including enhanced understanding of tumor suppressor genes, production of induced pluripotent stem cells and immunotherapy as well as research leading to life-saving cancer drugs Doxil®, Gleevec® and Velcade®. ICRF is proud that nearly every lifesaving development in cancer research coming out of Israel in recent decades is, in some way, connected to our support and these developments are being used to treat thousands of people worldwide.
