The Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center (HHREC) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization based in White Plains, New York that serves area schools, synagogues, colleges, churches and civic centers in Westchester and the greater Hudson Valley area.
Our work with students and teachers helps schools fulfill the New York State mandate that the Holocaust and other human rights violations be included in their curriculum. HHREC was selected by the NYS Commissioner of Education (NYSED) to revise and update all curricular resources to teach the Holocaust and other genocides in order to meet the 1994 mandate. This new online educator resource about the history of the Holocaust was published in 2025.
Since 1994, we have brought the lessons of the Holocaust, genocide and human rights violations to more than 5,000 teachers, and through them have reached hundreds of thousands of middle and high school students.
Through our volunteer Educatorsā Program Committee, the HHREC offers teachers the opportunity to plan professional development and to design curriculum for classroom use. These programs not only enrich teachers' knowledge about the Holocaust and related issues, but they also provide the lens through which to view all other human rights violations.
