Through the power of human connection, Compeer serves as a bridge to better mental health and community integration for all. A dynamic community-based program, Compeer supports caring volunteers and professional peers as they help individuals identify and develop strengths, reducing isolation and feelings of loneliness, and shatter the stigma around mental health.

In 2023, Dr. Vivek H. Murthy, the 19th and 21st Surgeon General of the United States released findings on an epidemic of loneliness and the healing effects of social connection. Compeer, a social care model ahead of its time, has tackled the effects of isolation since its beginnings in the early 1970s as a visiting program at the Rochester Psychiatric Center. When patients were discharged through deinstitutionalization in the years following, Compeer evolved into the community-based program it is today, unique in its approach to mental wellness through facilitating supporting, bond-forming relationships for children, teens, adults, and Veterans.
