About us
Good Samaritan Ministries is a non-profit organization established in 1985 to provide shelter, food, counseling, and advocacy for homeless, near homeless and transient individuals and families. We serve men, women, children, the elderly, disabled, Veterans and needy person from the community. We offer an emergency shelter, referral service, a transitional housing program, a food pantry, a soup kitchen, and an emergency assistance program. Our undertaking is to help the homeless help themselves. The mission of the Good Samaritan Emergency Shelter shall be to provide short-term housing up to 30 days (extensions may be granted), food, and supportive services to the homeless, transient, low-income individuals and families who have inadequate current resources for obtaining proper living arrangements consistent with their needs. Our Soup Kitchen provides nutritionally balanced meals, three times daily, every day of the year to residents of our Emergency Shelter, and to people in the community who are hungry. Our Emergency Shelter has the capacity to shelter twenty-six people. We plan to add 8 beds with the ETH – Winter Bed Expansion. We are open 24/7, 365 days of the year. While in the shelter clients receive case management. The Case Manager and staff will help the client set goals to get them back on their feet. The shelter serves a wide variety of people including people with mental and physical disabilities, families evicted from their homes, Veterans with nowhere to go, persons who have lost their jobs and people leaving the correctional facilities. The Case Manager will set up a case plan to meet the residents’ needs and refer them to the correct agency. He will also assist them in finding income. This includes unemployment, link, SSI, SSDI, Veteran benefits, job preparation, job applications, housing placement and much more. We also have an Emergency Assistance Program where we can assist clients in paying a rent or utility to prevent them from becoming homeless. We will also pay for prescriptions, work shoes/clothes, transportation to interviews, doctor appointments and more. Some individuals staying in the shelter are not prepared to live independently without additional basic life skills training. The Shelter Coordinator will meet with each client to do case management, advocacy and go over their intake. He will assist the residents with short and long-term goals and referral services. We will offer shelter, food, advocacy, counseling, life skills, employment services, legal services, case management, outreach, education, follow-up services, financial counseling, mental health referrals, health and dental services, transportation, medication, and prescriptions.
