About us
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to enrich the lives of people of all abilities through Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies (EAAT), improving physical, cognitive, social, and emotional well-being.
WHAT WE DO
Healing Horses Kauai believes anything is possible in a positive, supportive equestrian environment. We help transform “I cannot” into “I can” and “I will” through collaboration between students, certified instructors, trained volunteers, and our horses.
OUR COMMUNITY
Our community is built on respect, empathy, trust, cooperation, and empowerment for all. We serve our local children, special needs, mental health needs and everyone who loves horses including tourist.
Healing Horses Kauai began in 2001 when Karin Stoll incorporated horses into her social work practice. She found that clients became more engaged, communicative, and responsive during sessions. Early programs were held at various locations across Kauai, with horses transported to meet participants.
Over time, Karin and volunteers became certified therapeutic riding instructors, and in 2008 the organization gained nonprofit status. In 2012, Healing Horses Kauai secured a long-term lease and moved to its current Kapa‘a location, with a vision to create an ADA-accessible riding facility.
The site now includes an arena, round pen, horse stalls, and accessible features such as parking, restrooms, and mounting ramps. These improvements have expanded access and reduced stress on both horses and participants.
Continued development has enhanced the property with shaded areas, improved footing, water systems, and additional grazing land. Community volunteers have played a vital role in building and maintaining the facility.
Today, Healing Horses Kauai continues to grow, providing a safe and welcoming space where individuals can connect, learn, and thrive through the healing power of horses.
