ESS is a 501c(3) non-profit organization, volunteer-based healing center that promotes responsible horse ownership. ESS is dedicated to the safety and welfare of all equines and through programs of rescue and rehab, relocation or permanent retirement, and education serves to establish a connection between equines and humans. ESS has provided sanctuary and rehabilitation for rescued equines and programs for people of all ages since 2005. We have rescued over 100 equines, along with providing equine-assisted services programs, educational workshops and clinics. We work with kids, teaching them how to groom and lead the donkeys and our pony. They may have therapeutic riding lessons and also do various arts and crafts projects related to horses. We offer a Read to the Donkeys program, where kids can improve their reading skills or learn to read in a fun setting with our therapy donkeys. Many of our equines come to us starving or abused. With proper nutrition and loving attention, they learn that humans can be trusted. Some are adopted out to responsible homes and others find purpose as program horses. We love what we do, we love our equines, and truly believe that horses and humans help heal each other.
