The Edmonton Gleaners Association, more commonly known as Edmonton’s Food Bank, was incorporated in 1981 and was the first Food Bank in Canada. Edmonton’s Food Bank primarily operates as a central warehouse distributing food to over 250 agencies, churches, schools, and food depots throughout the city to support their programs. Thanks to this consolidated effort, we ensure that food donations go directly to those who need it the most. Edmonton’s Food Bank organizational model has allowed it to maneuver and scale up as needed over the years. As the need in Edmonton changes, so do we. In our 39 years of operation, the Food Bank has evolved from being a central food hub for different programs for our agency partners to include direct food help to individuals and families.
