The Asthma and Respiratory Foundation (ARFNZ) exists to improve the lives of the 1 in 6 individuals in NZ who live with a respiratory condition such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and bronchiectasis (that's 700,000 people). We work tirelessly in the community through advocacy, education and training, health literacy, resources, raising awareness, partnerships and research. These are part of the organisation strategy and govern all activities and programmes that we deliver. There is a high prevalence of respiratory disease in NZ, it is our third leading cause of death, and research has shown that low health literacy, low awareness of respiratory conditions, and a lack of education in the community are contributing factors to these alarming statistics.
