Acts of sexual violence are a violation of our human rights. No class, creed or gender is exempt from being abused or from abusing – it can affect us all. Some 42% of women and 1 in 4 men in Ireland have experienced some form of sexual abuse (SAVI Report, 2002). Sexual violence in Ireland is an unspoken epidemic; its occurrence is widespread and the consequences can be life-long. Dublin Rape Crisis Centre (DRCC) has been at the forefront of the response to sexual violence in Ireland for over 40 years. From our Centre in Dublin we provide services right across the country – both directly and through referrals to a network of regional rape centres and partners. We support survivors of sexual assault through their trauma and help them cope through the National-24 Hour Helpline and therapy services. We also work to eliminate the tolerance of these violent acts through education, training and policy work.
