Begin Anew empowers individuals to overcome the obstacles caused by poverty by providing education, mentoring, and resources. Our goal is to help adults ages 18 and older obtain self-sufficiency, education, and job training.We provide educational classes and mentoring to low-income working individuals seeking basic skills necessary for employment and a self-sufficient life. Educational tracks include High School Equivalency (HSE), English Language Learning (ELL), and Computer/Job Skills. Our holistic approach utilizes volunteers as teachers, tutors, mentors, and children's program providers. We serve adult students from all faiths and backgrounds.

Help us build a stronger community by teaching one generation to change the next. Sponsor an adult student and change a life! Our services continue to be available to adult students at no cost, but our average cost is $2,500 per student annually.

The Nashville Public Library estimates that 250,000 adult Nashvillians need educational assistance with English language learning, high school equivalency testing, and basic literacy skills. According to the NPL, not only could increased literacy help more adults progress, it could also lower unemployment, poverty, and crime rates. In addition, children with low-literate parents are 72 percent more likely to have poor reading skills themselves (ProLiteracy).
