Central Asia Institute
About us
Consider for a moment the life of a child born in one of the remote communities of Central Asia where CAI works. Especially if the child is female, her outlook is not good. As a small child in her preschool years, she most likely will not receive the stimulation necessary to help her brain develop, undermining her chances later in life of succeeding academically and socially. As a girl, it’s more likely than not that she’ll never go to school. If she does, chances are she’ll be forced to drop out before completing middle school.
As a woman, she’ll likely be illiterate, unable to contribute to her family’s income, and denied the right to make personal choices about who she marries or how many children she has. This is the reality for millions of girls and women –as well as boys and men – living in the impoverished, marginalized areas where CAI works.
CAI envisions a very different future for that child. For every child. A future full of hope, where every child – female or male – has the opportunity to develop his or her full human potential, thereby putting their families, communities, and nations on course for a brighter, more prosperous, more peaceful future.
