Better Basics' mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of children and their families by advancing reading and mathematical literacy through enrichment and intervention programs. Better Basics delivers effective research-based and community outreach programs to children from birth through 12th-grade in the Birmingham, Alabama area. We target under-resourced students; at least 85% are minority students. Better Basics' programs are designed to increase both skill and confidence levels in under-resourced students, infuse literacy into students' homes, and instill a love of reading. Better Basics has been making a positive difference in the lives of under-resourced students in Central Alabama since 1993. In 2020-2021, we will reach approximately 22,000 children with the same dedication and quality programming that we are known for. Our programs give at-risk children, from birth through 12th grade, the tools they need to be successful in reading and mathematics. We are proud to work in partnership with public school systems and numerous other community groups.
