These conditions cost the country an estimated $20 billion per year

The Cardiac and Respiratory Foundation NZ (Tuia Manawa Hā) champions healthier futures for all New Zealanders by strengthening knowledge, driving change and supporting those affected by heart and lung conditions. Recognising that the heart and lungs work in unison, the Cardiac and Respiratory Foundation NZ creates a single voice to advocate for better prevention, earlier diagnosis, faster access to intervention, and more equitable care for New Zealanders in cardiac and respiratory spaces.

This is achieved through a combination of activities including developing clinical best practice, encouraging self-management, improving health literacy, delivering education, and raising the national profile of cardiac and respiratory illness in Aotearoa NZ. We continue to work alongside health professionals, researchers, policymakers and communities to advocate for:

•     Faster access to guideline recommended medicines and medical devices

•     A nationally-funded lung cancer screening programme

•     Stronger tobacco and vaping policies

•     Tighter regulations around healthy homes

•     Investment in the health professional workforce
