About us
The British Deaf Association works to ensure a world in which the language, culture, community, diversity and heritage of Deaf people in the UK is respected and protected, ensuring that Deaf people can participate and contribute as equal and valued citizens in the wider society. We believe that every Deaf person has the right to communicate in their preferred language and every deaf child has the right to a fully inclusive education. For 132 years for fought for legal recognition of our language in the UK and an end to oppressive practices, eventually succeeding in the passing of the BSL Act 2022. We now need your help to ensure equity across the regions of the UK and to push for the BSL Act to be fully and properly implemented. Deaf people have lived under the legacy of 19th century oppression for too long but we need allies to support us in creating a better world where Deaf and hearing people benefit.
