Berkshire Humane Society is an independent nonprofit animal shelter in western Massachusetts dedicated to the compassionate care, treatment and placement of companion animals, while promoting and improving the welfare of all animals through education and outreach. We are the only open-admission, socially-conscious animal shelter in Berkshire County, taking in homeless pets in and around the county and finding them their forever families. We do not euthanize for space. We will care for any healthy, safe animal for as long as it takes for them to find a home.
We are ingrained in our community, providing services to people to keep pets in their loving homes. These include a pet food pantry, low-cost spay and neuter surgeries, a safe place to keep pets for owners in crisis (medical, domestic abuse and drug rehabilitation) and dog training. We also have a program to reduce the number of feral cats through spay and neuter, adoption and placement into businesses such as warehouses, farms and breweries to control rodents.
We receive no regular state or federal funding and we are not affiliated with any other humane organizations. We would not be able to carry out our compassionate work without our generous supporters.
