The Animal Welfare League NSW Hawkesbury Branch promotes responsible pet ownership, including desexing animals before breeding age and microchipping as these measures will help to decrease the large numbers of surrendered, lost and abandoned pets. We also foster and adopt cats and kittens who are homeless and abandoned. We manage a large number of colony cats who need desexing and vet attention. All our members are volunteers and are generous with their time and resources. Our vet bills are approximately $50k per year and growing. We provide subsidised desexing to community members who are struggling to desex their pets. Increasing the number of desexed animals in the community will provide sustaining results for the community.
