Unmasked Mental Health
About us
The work done by Unmasked is recognised as being invaluable to the individuals and wider communities that use it. Unmasked mental health services originally derived from a free app, aimed at any individual over the age of 16 and can be downloaded to all Apple/Android devices with currently being successfully downloaded in over 68 countries. Our ethos is based on the concept of anonymity and pairs individuals with other service users in the community to help each other try ‘unmask the stigma’ around mental health. We provide a safe platform that enables users to discuss their issues and only reveal their identity if they desire, encouraging communities to unite. The Unmasked App is described by the founders as an initial ‘doorway’ or ‘first step’ providing people with easy access to discussing their mental health, through the use of not only the app, but additional services such as the community peer support hubs and community organised activities, bringing individuals together and the opportunity to access further services such as counselling and talking therapies. Additionally, the Unmasked social media reach is currently at 20.7 million, reflecting the constant engagement by our users and this is continually growing.
Unmasked Mental Health offer a free peer-run support hub every Thursday evening 7-9pm at various locations around the UK. The concept is a safe space that enables individuals to be able to offload and ‘unmask’ anything that may be affecting them with the reassurance of a confidential yet comforting environment. Each week we provide a set of 5 different questions aimed at providing our hub users with the opportunity to be able to unlock and offload what is on their minds. We all have the goal to be able to open up and talk about our wellbeing, and our peer-run support hubs enable for just that.
