The Wheen Bee Foundation Limited
About us
Sixty five percent of agricultural production is reliant on honey bee pollination to produce the fruit, vegetables and seeds you eat every day. This equates to one is every three mouthfuls of food eaten.
Honey bees however are facing serious threats globally, and this is posing a risk to our food security.
Colony collapse disorder, Varroa mites, pesticide poisoning, biosecurity incursions, reduced access to public lands, and adulterated honey importations are amongst the major threats facing Australian bees. This, in turn threatens pollination security, food security and industry security.
Australia can import honey, but it cannot import honeybees to service its national pollination requirements.
To secure national food security and agricultural industry interests, increased funding support for research that addresses the national and global threats to honey bees and pollination is urgently needed.
The Wheen Bee Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that promotes awareness of the importance of bees for food security, and raises funds for research that addresses the national and global threats to bees.
Please give us your vote or donate now because food security needs bee security.
