Northwest Community Group Inc. was founded in May of 2023 by Paul Slater who was volunteering in Fortitude Valley for a service provider. During this time, Paul realised there was a huge demand for clothing and other essential items needed by the homeless community he worked with. Frustrated by a breakdown in the systems meant to support the community, and due to his generous and kind nature, Northwest Community Group Inc. was formed.Northwest Community Group Inc. is a grassroots charity based in Ferny Grove, Brisbane and provides clothing, toiletries, sleeping bags, tents, shoes, socks, underwear and a variety of other goods to people who are experiencing homelessness, or at risk of doing so. Our motto is “No judgement, only love”. At the present time, we have 3 outreach locations - Kurilpa Point Park, Fortitude Valley and Musgrave Park.Donations made to Northwest Community Group Inc. are used to purchase items when our current levels are diminished and not on administrative costs or wages. We also supports some of our participants in times of need with rental payments, relocations and unexpected bill payments which assist them to stay afloat.By developing strong partnerships with our supporters, other programs have been established such as a community pantry at the Ferny Grove Tavern, where people are able to leave non-perishable food items for our outreach services, and Next Step Connect who support people living in our community with vouchers, household goods and other practical help to ensure they can continue to live in their home, and stay as a valuable part of our community.
