The Urban Conservancy is helping build a more resilient, just, and inclusive New Orleans block by block and yard by yard. As climate change accelerates, historically marginalized communities are bearing the brunt of flooding, extreme heat, and disinvestment. The Urban Conservancy is not only addressing these challenges head-on through green infrastructure, education, and economic opportunity; it’s doing so by putting power back in the hands of residents.

Through programs like the Front Yard Initiative, BASIN, and StayLocal, the UC is transforming paved lots into permeable landscapes, connecting youth to the local ecology, and partnering with small, local businesses, especially those owned by women and people of color, to drive lasting change. This work doesn’t just mitigate environmental hazards; it strengthens community identity, creates intergenerational wealth, and ensures that New Orleanians can age in place with dignity.
