The Spirit Horse Ranch Inc. is a Maui based 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing trauma informed equine assisted services to youth, families, and individuals experiencing crisis. Founded in 2021 and opened to the community in early 2023, The Spirit Horse Ranch was created to address a growing gap in accessible behavioral health support across Maui and Moloka‘i.

Following the August 8, 2023 Maui wildfires and other recent disasters, the need for emotional and mental health support on the island increased dramatically. The Spirit Horse Ranch became one of the few immediate community resources able to respond, offering structured programs that help individuals regulate stress, rebuild trust, and strengthen resilience through guided interactions with horses in a safe outdoor environment.

Programs at The Spirit Horse Ranch primarily serve youth ages 5 to 17, families navigating crisis, wildfire survivors, first responders, and individuals referred through schools, juvenile justice diversion programs, and community service agencies. Horses naturally mirror human emotional states, allowing participants to learn self regulation, communication, and relationship skills in ways that traditional clinical settings often cannot provide.

Since opening its doors, The Spirit Horse Ranch has delivered thousands of trauma informed sessions and has become a trusted resource for families across Maui and Moloka‘i. The program integrates evidence informed approaches including Natural Lifemanship trauma informed care, HeartMath nervous system regulation, Brainspotting, art based activities, and land based healing practices.

The Spirit Horse Ranch exists to strengthen individuals, restore families, and help rebuild community resilience in the aftermath of trauma and disaster. Support from philanthropic partners allows the organization to continue offering services on a sliding scale and often at no cost to those who need them most.
