The Friendly Transport Service (The Friendly Bus) Cover Photo
Friendly Bus supports elderly, vulnerable or disabled residents in Broseley, Much Wenlock and surrounding areas in Shropshire. We focus on reducing loneliness and isolation. Historically this was by providing community transport with wheelchair lift/ramp access for those with mobility problems and a passenger assistant to help. Throughout the covid pandemic we’ve adapted our service to provide: - Shopping and prescription collections. - A telephone befriending service. - Transport to medical appointments (including covid-19 vaccinations). - Regular communications with our members, providing information on relevant topics such as how to stay active at home, signpost to mental health resources, and staying safe from scams. - Active involvement in a local covid-community support group. In 2020 we also: - Provided a Swap Shop Bus stocked with books, DVDs, CDs, puzzles for the whole community, especially those shielding, to access. Letters could also be given to our volunteers to post for them. - Supported a local FoodShare organisation by delivering food parcels to those shielding. We’re now expanding our support by setting up a Good Neighbour Project. This will help people to continue living independently for example, by changing smoke detector batteries and lightbulbs to keep them safe, indoor window cleaning and light gardening duties.
