Every emergency department visit is imprinted with, and cannot be separated from, a patient’s humanity and their social context. With this understanding, the Levitt Center was founded to incorporate patients’ social needs into the practice of emergency medicine and to promote health equity. The past few years have underscored the depth of health inequality and the importance of social determinants of health in shaping our patients’ outcomes. Our mission has never been more relevant than it is today. 

The Levitt Center is a nonprofit research and advocacy institute dedicated to reducing health disparities by conducting innovative research on how patients' social needs impact health outcomes and developing programs to advance health equity, including initiatives to build a more diverse healthcare workforce.
