SuperGrans Tairawhiti
About us
SuperGrans Tairāwhiti (SGT) is a charity that supports Tairāwhiti whānau to live well and flourish. SGT focuses on enabling whānau with the skills and knowledge to take greater control of their own lives. We service from Wairoa through Turanganui-a-Kiwa to Potikirua on the East Cape.Based on the values of aroha, hope and integrity, we: respond to people in crises and emergencies, provide a safe space for people to get the help they need and build their life skills. Give opportunities for knowledge sharing and connecting, and support the development of food security for people living in hardship. We have no criteria and assist any person in hardship in the region without judgment.
SGT takes referrals from 54 local agencies that lean on us when their clients are in emergency, crises, or extreme hardship. We work closely with all of these agencies to wrap around and support as well as creating collaborations of workshops.
We do this through: life skills workshops (cooking, making homemade cleaners, pickles and chutneys, making a CV and interview prep), peer support work, maara kai, organising and creating food parcels to be distributed, re-purposing rescued kai in our kitchen, parenting workshops, ready to rent workshops, advocating and navigating social service systems, budgeting, creating employment strategies for people, and supporting those in crisis with basic needs.
As a charity, we rely on donations and support from the public to ensure we can continue to do what we do.
