Science for Wildlife is a leading not-for-profit wildlife conservation organisation based out of the Blue Mountains, Australia. We are working to secure a future for our native wildlife under climate change, including population recovery after the Black Summer bushfires.
To achieve this we undertake critical scientific research to work out what actions are needed, and engage with land managers, community groups and volunteers making sure that local experience and know-how are shared and wildlife conservation is as effective as it can possibly be. We build on sense of place, creating local ownership and community stewardship to ensure that conservation efforts endure.
Our wildlife was already under pressure due to habitat loss and invasive species, then after 3 billion animals were lost during the fires the conservation challenge is now greater than ever. Our projects include the Blue Mountains Koala Project, where we have uncovered nationally significant populations of koalas in the World Heritage Area, and collaborative work to conserve critical weight range mammals across the landscape. We are creating new conservation approaches to scale up across NSW and beyond.
