Saddlebred Rescue Inc.
Saddlebred Rescue is a professional operated horse rescue and member of the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries. Primarily what we do is save horses from slaughter through buying horses from auctions and meat buyers on the east coast. We quarantine and then begin vet care as needed and evaluation of each horse's potential to support our matching program for our adoptions. The more we can successfully adopt out the more new horses we can save from slaughter. All horses are attended to for vet care, vaccinations, teeth float and farrier work. Supplements and medications are purchased as needed. We have professionals in all these areas on call. Our adoption fees are under $1000 and that does not cover at all the purchase prices and the costs to provide the level of care we give these horses. To execute our program we have to raise money through donations. The EL and Thelma Gaylord Foundation has been a supporter for over 10 years with an annual Matching Grant to encourage donations and provide a cornerstone to the funding of our program. Our matching and adoption program has been very successful. All adopting parties must agree to return the horses to us if they find they can no longer care for the horse. We have a dozen or so returned to us every year and each horse comes back for evaluation and most are adopted with a second family.
