The mission of Roots and Wings is to support and encourage children's reading skills and to inspire teachers to make learning fun and accessible. We achieve this through two signature programs: Project UpLift and the Above and Beyond Awards. Project UpLift is a free, intensive, small group after-school tutorial program for elementary students in grades 1-3 who are reading one to two grades below their level. Currently, we serve 15 Title One public schools in Palm Beach County, assisting over 1,000 students annually. We know that if a child cannot read by the third grade, they will struggle to learn. Our goal is to ensure that third graders have the support needed to become proficient in reading and be promoted to the fourth grade. We honor teachers at our participating schools through the Above and Beyond Awards. This program recognizes teachers who go the extra mile to support their students, schools, and communities. Roots and Wings’ programs operationalize the lyrics of the song, "Greatest Love of All": "We believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way." We seek grant funding to help us keep doing this work that makes such a positive difference.
