Retired Greyhounds Canterbury was founded during the Covid 19 lockdown in 2020 when greyhound racing was suspended. This meant that many trainers were having trouble keeping greyhounds that could not earn theirkeep.Racing greyhounds were in danger.

The Greyhound Trust could not take in anymore dogs so it was decided that Retired Greyhounds Canterbury should be established to try and save as many greyhounds as possible.Since then the organisation has grown and moved away from its origins as part of the Greyhound Trust.
