Our Place Society serves approximately 2,000 people a year in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada who are struggling with poverty, homelessness, addiction, mental or physical health issues. Our vision is love, hope and belonging and our mission is to offer our most vulnerable citizens a place to call their own, where we live, share and grow together. At the inner-city community centre, we are open to everybody whether that be for a sense of community, connection, safety, meals, coffee and a chat or help securing housing, detox, or medical assistance. While the landscape of what we see on the streets has changed drastically due to the toxicity of drugs, increased poverty, and a lack of health resources, we know most people want to be helped. Without abandoning those who don’t seek change, our focus will be on those who do. We provide the largest drop-in meal service in Greater Victoria, serving over 1,000 meals daily at the Community Centre , with an additional 400 meals provided to shelter and housing. Our Place continues to advocate for a proper continuum of care, which includes street-based harm reduction, food security, mental health and physical health supports, shelter, detox, recovery and housing.
