Profile
• One Step Learning Opportunities Centre (OSL) is a grassroots Canadian registered charity that connects Canadians and others to early childhood learning charitable causes.
• Emerged after a Canadian couple donated their building and space in Ghana for 30 years rent-free for early childhood learning purposes.
• The “why” of their philanthropic generosity is “Making Early Childhood Learning Affordable” for toddlers in rural Entumbil, Ghana.
• Efforts are underway in Canada to leverage the Learning Through Play daycare in Ghana to Canadian institutions to use it as a placement centre for early childhood learning students and volunteers to complete practicums and research for international experience.
Impacts
• Started with 11 children in October 2021 and now we serve 80 children.
• The Value Proposition is evident, as 2023 financial statements attest to the responsible fiscal management OSL has achieved with $180,636 operating and capital expenses in three years.
• It cost less than $70 per child per month to educate the 80 toddlers; employ 14 paid staff; implement a sustainable daycare; and provide parents, especially women, opportunity to pursue careers.
• It’s good value and mission accomplished, as 80 children undergo life changing experience in literacy, nurturing, and wellbeing.
Our Ask?
• Operating and capital funds needed to keep momentum and run the subsidized charitable daycare, e.g. wages, educational materials, supplies, Water Tank, Playground, and School Van/Bus.
