About us

NQ Wildlife Care Inc is a voluntary non-profit organisation that helps native wildlife in North Queensland. Our mission statement: To rehabilitate sick, injured and orphaned native fauna from rescue to release. Each year we rescue and care for almost 3000 native animals, including bandicoots, bettongs, birds, echidnas, flying foxes, frogs, gliders, goannas, kangaroos, koalas, lizards, microbats, native mice, possums, quolls, snakes, turtles and wallabies. Our network of carers extends from Townsville to Ingham, the Burdekin, Charters Towers and all the way to Mount Isa. We receive no government funding and all donations are appreciated! We are grateful to the local vets who treat injured wildlife.

Why do native animals come into care? Road accidents; Dog and cat attacks; Habitat destruction - urban development; Diseases or infections; Adverse weather conditions; Flying into windows; Poisons in the environment - many household substances are toxic to wildlife e.g. fly spray, herbicide; Unnecessary rescue by well-intentioned public (fledgling birds) Entanglement in barbed wire; Public intolerance of wildlife.

We run Introduction to Wildlife Care courses for new carers four times a year. Please register on the website.
