The NZDA is New Zealand's leading independent conservation and hunting organization with 12,000 members, across 48 branches nationwide. Our volunteers are passionate conservationists who protect and maintain our beautiful environment by actively getting out into the bush to main trap lines to eliminate predators, maintain huts that all New Zealanders enjoy, and manage game animal numbers without using poisons. You will never see our volunteers appealing for money in street appeals or via telemarketing companies, they're out there doing the work. We are a non-profit membership organisation and conduct our conservation work at zero cost to the taxpayer.

Founded in 1937, our members have played a crucial role in managing game animal numbers and donating ethically sourced protein to local communities and food banks during hardship. Our instructors and members also participate in search and rescue operations to help bring people home safely.

The HUNTS program teaches New Zealanders how to safely navigate our wilderness, and how to successfully put food on the table for their families. It is run by passionate volunteers dedicated to teaching a new generation of people to access the high-quality protein that our whenua provides, while also helping maintain the natural balance of our environment.
