Mummy’s Wish support and empower mums throughout Australia who have been diagnosed with cancer, and have young children, to manage the distressing impact their illness has on them and their family. Our Support Coordinators work with each mum to establish their individual needs and find practical ways to ease the burden of managing family life through cancer treatment — be it ready-made meals, house cleaning, personal support or guidance on how to talk to kids about cancer. Our practical solutions include: 1. Personal support and initial case management from a qualified Mummy’s Wish support coordinator. 2. Care packages that include talking comfort bears for each child, books and resources to help children understand and cope with Mum’s diagnosis, and additional information and resources. 3. Support packages which can include house cleaning sessions or delivery of nutritious family meals during Mum’s treatment; hospital car parking vouchers, and provision of other domestic needs as required. 4. Regular ongoing support including referrals to other support agencies, connection to support groups (including Mummy’s Wish closed Facebook support group) and access to online counselling sessions. Every day around Australia, 13 other families have their lives turned upside down when they find out mum has cancer. At current capacity we can only support 1 in 5 of these families (between 800-1000 per year).
