About us
Rescue and rehabilitation in Mousehole, Cornwall for almost 100 years
Set high atop the cliffs overlooking the picturesque Cornish fishing village of Mousehole, Mousehole Wild Bird Hospital Cornwall provides a safe haven for over 1,000 wild birds every year. We provide care and support for many different species of bird – from herring gulls to robins, from magpies and crows to pigeons and doves.
The Hospital was founded in 1928 by Dorothy and Phyllis Yglesias. Over the years the Hospital has become famous, especially so during the 1967 Torrey Canyon disaster, when over 8,000 oiled birds passed through the Hospital. We are currently recovering from a 12 month, DEFRA-mandated closure after an Avian Influenza outbreak. We have since followed all requirements and now have access back to our site after running a temporary hospital for gulls this summer. We are working hard to get Mousehole back up to standard after such a long time away and have some exciting refurbishment plans coming up.
