Kent Search and Rescue (KSAR) provides qualified volunteer search and rescue (SAR) teams and equipment 24/7/365 to help emergency services find and save high-risk vulnerable missing persons anywhere in Kent. The charity also runs Operation Concern with Kent Police – with our volunteer SAR patrols providing urgent help to lower-risk vulnerable people by attending 999/101 calls ranging from welfare concern to mental health crisis and suicide risk before they go missing. Additionally, KSAR operates Safe and Dry, an initiative to help prevent drownings in the Medway at major events involving alcohol – with our volunteers patrolling on and off water late into the night. And we offer mutual specialist SAR aid to neighbouring emergency services. All our rescue teams (circa 100 personnel) comprise qualified volunteers from the communities we serve and all are Police Level 2 vetted. We have an independent Board of Trustees, which includes the Assistant Chief Constable from Kent Police, the Assistant Chief Fire Officer from Kent Fire and Rescue Service and the Chief Executive Officer from Kent’s Police and Crime Commissioners’ office – all of whom speak highly of our professionalism and are on record stating that lives are saved by KSAR. KSAR’s last 12 months in numbers: 121 days deployed 401 separate incidents 8,271 hours deployed 11,800 hours training
