Medical Detection Dogs is a charity at the forefront of medical research and healthcare innovation. Using dogs' extraordinary sense of smell, we are dedicated to training our dogs to detect and recognise human diseases by odour in order to save and enhance lives.

Our Bio Detection Dogs work on ground-breaking research programmes, which have the potential to improve early diagnosis of life-threatening diseases, including cancer, Parkinson's disease and bacterial infections. Our amazing dogs are trained to find the odour of these diseases in samples such as urine, breath and sweat.

Our Medical Alert Assistance Dogs support individuals with complex health conditions who have limited awareness of an impending life-threatening episode. The dogs are taught to identify odour changes associated with specific medical conditions, so that they can alert to an oncoming episode, helping to prevent medical emergencies, improve quality of life, and ultimately save lives. One beneficiary Zoe, says of her Medical Alert Assistance Dog, “Stowe has had a huge impact on me both physically and mentally. Stowe helps with my PoTS by alerting to an oncoming episode, ensuring I stay safe. Stowe also helps by fetching medical supplies, water, mobile phone and a person to help if needed.”
