Maddie's Place provides medical care in a nurturing environment for substance-exposed infants, together with loving, wraparound support for their caregivers.

Maddie’s Place is a 501(c)3 non-profit, free-standing recovery nursery for babies experiencing withdrawal due to prenatal substance exposure. We provide high quality, holistic, multi-disciplinary medical and non-medical care for infants with prenatal substance exposure, including neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS), and wraparound support for their parents/caregivers. Our comprehensive model of care brings babies safely through their withdrawal, facilitates early bonding whenever possible, offers hope and support to parents struggling with substance abuse, strengthens families, improves early intervention, and helps mitigate the long-term effects suffered by children with in-utero substance exposure.

Maddie's addresses gaps in the current system of care by providing a nonpharmacologic, dyad-focused model that supports infants and caregivers through withdrawal and early bonding. As one of only five organizations nationwide providing high-quality, specialized non-pharmacologic medical care in a calm, home-like setting, Maddie’s supports infants through withdrawal using comfort-based care and invites parents to remain actively involved in their baby’s care. The facility can serve up to 16 infants at a time and offers 13 private rooms where parents can stay full-time at no cost while caring for their babies.

Alongside infant care, families receive individualized case management addressing substance use recovery, housing stability, parenting skills, access to essential services, and more. By treating the dyad, Maddie's improves outcomes for both, strengthening bonding and recovery while reducing reliance on medication, prolonged neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) stays, and/or foster care.
