We are a small 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue in Laredo, Texas. Our primary mission is at-home fostering of harder-to-adopt dogs from the euthanasia list at our high-kill city shelter. These are typically dogs who have medical or fear-based behavioral challenges. We provide medical examination, treatment, and a safe, quiet in-home environment for the dog to decompress before being transported north to their receiving 501(c)(3) rescue on our volunteer transport network. Typically each of these dogs is with us for 6-8 weeks while we evaluate their medical and behavioral needs and build their confidence. These medical needs often encompass vaccines, sterilization. deworming, weight gain, building trust, learning healthy habits around food, socialization, house training and leash skills. All dogs receive a release vet exam before transport to ensure they are medically cleared. Our goals for growth are to establish a trap-neuter-return program for community cats. Our community does not have any formalized TnR programs, leading to overpopulation. Longer term we aim to provide access to subsidized sterilization services and core vaccines to owned pets in our community.  We have come to learn that we cannot rescue our way out of the overpopulation crisis we are facing here in South Texas. We believe that access to free sterilization services for community cats and subsidized (low cost to owner) basic health care for owned pets will begin to make a substantial impact on the overpopulation of companion animals that our community is facing and the large-scale surrender of companion pets to our city shelter.
