About us

Living Options Devon (charity no 1102489) has spent thirty years working throughout Devon and the South West to ensure that people with disabilities and Deaf people can live the life they choose. The charity was founded in 1990 by Peter Swain OBE following a life changing spinal injury, providing him with an understanding of the many barriers that disabled people face; and a deep understanding of the support possible to enable other disabled people to live more independent and fulfilling lives. Run and led by disabled people, 71% of our Board of Trustees, 39% of our staff and approximately 89% of our volunteers are disabled or Deaf which means that we have lived experience of the issues facing disabled people. Annually, over 10,000 disabled and Deaf people, their families and carers, benefit from LOD services, including training, volunteering, outreach projects and accessible support services. As a user-led organisation, we have a first-hand understanding of the issues faced by disabled and Deaf people. Further details of the charity can be found at www.livingoptions.org.
