Lincolnshire Emergency Medical Response (LEMR) – Charity No. 1141554 – exists because one life was lost too soon.
In 1998, Scott Bateman MBE lost his father to a sudden heart attack. He believed that if someone trained in Advanced Life Support (ALS) had arrived just minutes earlier, his father might still be alive. From that moment, Scott set out to change the outcome for others—driven by a simple but powerful belief: faster care saves lives.
This belief led to the creation of First Response, a national charity made up of regional schemes. When parts of that scheme were later forced to close due to a lack of resources, Lincolnshire refused to let the mission fade. On 19 April 2011, LEMR was formed as an independent charity, officially launching on 1 September 2011, dedicated solely to serving the people of Lincolnshire.
Today, LEMR is run by around 35 extraordinary volunteers, all current or former members of the Armed Forces. From every rank and trade, they come together with one shared purpose: to be there when it matters most. These men and women give up their own time—nights, weekends, and family moments—to respond to 999 emergency calls, working side by side with the East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS).
LEMR operates two fully equipped Rapid Response Vehicles, marked BMW X3s with blue lights and sirens, based at RAF Cranwell. Supplied by EMAS in January 2026, these vehicles allow our crews to reach patients quickly, often in the most critical moments of their lives.
When LEMR arrives first on scene, the focus is immediate and uncompromising: assess, triage, stabilise, and save life. Crews provide advanced care until a frontline ambulance arrives, then deliver a thorough clinical handover and continue supporting until they are no longer needed. Every action is driven by one goal—to give the patient the best possible chance of survival.
LEMR is a non‑profit charity, entirely dependent on the generosity of the public. Every donation, every fundraising event, every collection bucket in a supermarket helps keep our vehicles on the road and our volunteers ready to respond. Support comes from local families, businesses, and from people whose lives have been directly touched by LEMR’s work.
For our volunteers, this commitment goes far beyond emergency response. Fundraising, training, and community engagement are all part of the role—carried out alongside full‑time jobs and personal responsibilities. They do it not for recognition, but because they believe no one should face a medical emergency alone.
LEMR exists to turn loss into action, minutes into lives saved, and community support into real‑world impact.
