Lake Tahoe Wolf Rescue is a Foster-based organization. We are not a sanctuary, and when a dog is surrendered to us by an owner or shelter, we place them into our Foster Homes when available. We often pull wolfdogs and some northern breeds from the Euthanization List at shelters. After proper rehabilitation, nourishment, training, and the dog is ready for adoption, we rehome them to wolfdog-experienced Adopters. We have very strict Adoption Requirements which can be found on our website. We strive to educate Adopters - as well as the public - about wolfdog ownership to ensure that our rescues enjoy long and happy lives in their new homes. Our mission is also to support a ban on wolfdog breeding. Unfortunately, this special-needs breed is becoming overpopulated and most wind up in the wrong hands. Not everyone is qualified to own a wolfdog. Many of these dogs escape their yards, get hit by cars, starve on the streets, are shot or wind up in shelters. They are often euthanized because shelters cannot rehome them to the general public. Finding the right homes for these pups isn't easy and there are not enough qualified homes for them. We hope we can make a difference in the lives of these intelligent, loving and sentient beings who deserve much more.
