Summary The Happy Landing Animal Shelter is a small animal rescue centre based on a 5-acre site near Shepton Mallet, Somerset. It was opened in May 1995 and provides shelter for around 100 domestic and a further 200 farm animals. In recent years they have found new homes for more about 250 domestic animals per year. They work alongside authorities such as councils, dog wardens, social services, and the police as well as vets and other sanctuaries and the demand for animal welfare is constant and busy. The centre is run by a team of highly dedicated and experienced staff and volunteers who between them have many years’ experience of dealing with difficult, harrowing, and challenging situations concerning animal neglect and cruelty. They rescue a wide variety of domestic animals, dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets as well as farm animals such as goats, pigs, and poultry. We also provide a boarding facility for local pets which provides us with our income. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, HLAS has been forced to close its boarding facilities. Other areas of fundraising including events, corporate and community engagement have also been cancelled which has had a significant impact on income for the charity.
